What this service covers.
Heat treatment alters a gemstone’s colour, clarity, or both. The laboratory uses a combination of microscopic examination, FTIR spectroscopy, and photoluminescence to identify residual indicators of heating – including altered inclusions, modified absorption features, and structural changes.
Accurate heat detection is critical for trade disclosure. An unheated determination significantly affects value, particularly in ruby and sapphire.
