Introduction to Morganite

Morganite is celebrated for its alluring range of pink and peach hues. It is a captivating gemstone from the beryl family, a mineral group that includes emeralds and aquamarines. It is chemically composed of beryllium aluminium silicate, with the formula Be₃Al₂(SiO₃)₆. Morganite gets its colour palette due to the small trace of an element called manganese present in its structure. These delicate colours make Morganite a visually appealing gemstone.

History of Morganite

The discovery of Morganite traces back to the year 1910 in Madagascar. The gemologist George F. Kunz named it in honour of J.P. Morgan, a renowned financier and gem collector. Previously known as pink beryl, the stone was rechristened as Morganite and has since been recognised under this name in the gemstone trade. The renaming marked a new chapter in the gem’s history, elevating its status and allure.
